Type 416 Stainless Steel is a popular, highly machinable, and lower-cost martensitic free machining stainless steel. It offers resistance to fresh water, acids, alkalis, and air; however, it is less resistant to corrosion than austenitic steels. Type 416 also has the highest level of machinability of all stainless steels. It is available in various forms including highly tempered, hardened, and unhardened.
